Jordy Smith claimed the 2016 Hurley Pro at Trestles, in California. The South African defeated Joel Parkinson in three-foot surf at Lower Trestles. Smith opened his wave account with two average rides, and Joel seemed focused on waiting for a set wave which could offer a long, rippable wall. The South African’s third wave earned 8 points from the judges, and the fourth was scored 7.40 points. When Parkinson kicked off his campaign, he failed to land a small air and only got a 6.93.
